We are excited to announce that 2019 TIMA Festival will be held in Yerevan, Armenia, from July 14 to July 28. The decision to choose the Armenian capital as a host city of our festival was predicated on the idea of broadening   participants’ perspectives to a lesser known yet superbly rich cultural and musical heritage of an antient country between Europe and Asia.  Apart from quality program and opportunities to perform on the first-class stages, students and faculty will have a chance to visit important historical sites in Armenia. We are confident that your experience will be inspirational and rewarding.

The history of Armenia goes back 5000 years.  It is a land of remarkable architectural marvels such as classical Greco-Roman Temple of Garni believed to be built in 77 AD. Curious archeological discoveries have been made here such as what is believed to be the first shoe dating back to 3300 BS. For centuries, Armenia was an important part of the Silk Road.

Achievements in music have been the hallmark of the country’s past and present. Renowned musicians of Armenian descent include composers Komitas, Aram Khachaturian and Arno Babajanian, French poet and chansonnier Charles Aznavour, to name a few.

Today Yerevan boasts a lively jazz and classical music scene. It is a venue of numerous international jazz festivals, highly prestigious Khachaturian Music Competition, Golden Apricot Film Festival, and other events.  We hope that 2019 TIMA will be an exciting addition to cultural landscape of Armenia.
